Rudolph Kuser, 73, Was Kind and Generous Man

Rudolph V. (Rudy) Kuser of Edgartown died peacefully on Feb. 10, at New England Medical Center in Boston.

He was born in New Jersey Oct. 23, 1930. A graduate of The Hun School of Princeton and Rider College, he honorably served in active duty with the United States Army in 1954. He retired from The State of New Jersey, Division of Taxation, at the age of 55.

Rudy loved the serenity of the Island. He bought his first home at Sengekontacket, his second on Alpine Lane, Oak Bluffs and his third on Katama Drive, Edgartown. On Nov. 23, 1996 he married his best friend of nine and a half years, Ree Jutras-Kuser. Many friends and family members celebrated their weekend union at Lambert's Cove Inn.

Rudy was a gentle, kind, thoughtful and generous man to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was rarely seen without his loyal companions by his side, two white domestic cats which he called "the Boys." He was well traveled and especially enjoyed cruises, of which he took many.

For many years while residing in New Jersey he was a trustee for St. James Church in Pennington, volunteering his time in maintaining the electrical and security systems. During his retirement, he enjoyed many visits with his grandsons, and driving the truck on the beach became a family tradition.

Rudy enjoyed the beauty of birds, erecting countless feeders and faithfully supplying them with seed. Rudy prided himself in being organized, and spent many hours on his computer. If there was a gadget to be had, he owned it.

In May of 1998 he began his volunteer work for the Martha's Vineyard Historical Society, where he was known as the "Wedding Guy," as he was responsible for reserving all lighthouse weddings. He had a passion for lighthouses and collected them as well. He was an active member of St. Elizabeth's parish in Edgartown.

Mr. Kuser leaves his wife of eight years, Ree Jutras-Kuser, two children, Johanna F. Kuser of Hamilton, N.J., and Rudolph V. Kuser Jr. of Bricktownship N.J.; his devoted son in law, Richard Hobson; and two beloved grandsons, Christian and Michael Hobson, all of Hopewell N.J.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Martha's Vineyard Historical Society, 55 School street, Edgartown MA 02539. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Blackwell Funeral Parlor in Pennington, N.J.
