Ruth Davis, Age 75, Was Former Island Resident
Ruth Davis died at home in Marblehead surrounded by family on Oct. 17. She died of cancer at the age of 75.
Ruth was born in Chicago on Jan. 2, 1928, the oldest of six siblings. She maintained a close relationship with them throughout her life.
She married Hiller Masker in 1945. In 1963, the family moved from Chicago to Massachusetts via sailboat, coming through the Erie Canal and down the Hudson River. After her first marriage ended, she spent two winters on the Vineyard, one year living on Pease's Point Way and the other as manager of the Daggett House.
In 1980 she married Harold Davis. They worked together in Mr. Davis' business, H. Davis Textiles. Following retirement, the couple spent part of the year in Marblehead and part of the year in Pompano, Fla.
Mrs. Davis was a person who made everyone in her presence comfortable. She was a generous and kind person, a fantastic cook and many enjoyed shared meals around her table.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Davis, of Marblehead; two daughters, Daryl Knight of Chappaquiddick and Deborah Kate Masker of Philadelphia; two sisters, Norma Barton of Bedford and Grace Green of Lowell; three brothers, Raymond Green of Chicago, Donald Green of St. Augustine, Fla., and Martin Green of Baltimore; five grandchildren, Benjamin Knight of Chilmark, Gabrielle Knight of Los Angeles and Caitlin, Kelsey and Hannah Davis of Marblehead.
Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice of Martha's Vineyard or your favorite charity.
