Mark F. Rigby, 44, Was Rehabilitation Counselor

Mark F. Rigby, a rehabilitation counselor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, died as a result of injuries suffered in a traffic accident in Burlington on Saturday, March 22. He was 44 years old.

Mr. Rigby was born in Medford. He grew up and was educated in Dorchester. He was a graduate of Don Bosco Technical High School in Boston.

Mr. Rigby worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a rehabilitation counselor. He worked at the Shattuck Shelter in Boston for 15 years. Over those years he helped hundreds of individuals struggling with alcohol and substance addictions. His commitment to these struggling individuals went far beyond just a job. He volunteered his time at the Grenada House where he was a counselor, a friend and even a cook when needed. His interests included cars of all sorts. He has owned or driven them all -- from hearses to antiques, pickup trucks, 18-wheelers, box trucks, convertibles and motorcycles.

In his free time, Mr. Rigby enjoyed cooking and spending time on Martha's Vineyard. His family was a big part of his life.

Mr. Rigby was the son of Robert E. and Mary T. (Kelly) Rigby of Burlington. He was the brother of Robert E. Rigby Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Beverly, Chris Rigby and his wife, Margaret, Bill Rigby and his wife, Paula, Noreen Groom and her husband, David, and Kathy Rigby, all of Burlington; and the late Karen E. Vick. He was the brother in law of Gregory Vick of Burlington. Many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive him.

Funeral services were held from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home in Burlington on Thursday, March 27, at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret's Church in Burlington at 10 a.m. Interment was in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
