Barbara E. Eastman, 83, Loved Gardening, Music
Barbara E. (Long) Eastman, 83, widow of Capt. Robert S. Eastman USN Ret., of Rye, N.H., and Martha's Vineyard, died August 7 at Exeter (N.H.) Hospital. Mrs. Eastman was also a resident of Portsmouth, N.H., for 21 years.
Mrs. Eastman was born in Bellows Falls, Vt., on May 23, 1919, the daughter of John Joseph and Mary Frances (Sullivan) Long. She was graduated from Hartford High School in White River Junction, Vt. A sister, Margaret (Long) Avery of Lebanon, N.H., predeceased her.
A lover of life and highly spirited, Mrs. Eastman was an avid reader and gifted storyteller. Her interests included gardening, music, dancing, sports, her family and all things Irish.
Survivors include eight children, David L. Eastman of South Tamworth, N.H.; Judith E. Federowicz of Vineyard Haven; Jonathan G. Eastman of Heber, Utah; Mary Leone E. Borowski of Nashua, N.H.; R. Stephen Eastman Jr. of North Conway, N.H.; Susan E. Walton of Boulder, Colo.; Thomas E. Eastman of Center Conway, N.H., and Jean Eastman Ryan of Rye; 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Theresa's Church in Rye on Saturday, August 10, at 10 a.m. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted.
