Bishop Gayle Harris, suffragan bishop of the diocese of Massachusetts, will be the preacher and celebrant at Trinity Episcopal Church on August 19.

A native of Cleveland, Bishop Harris was ordained to the priesthood in 1982 in the diocese of Newark. Prior to her consecration, she served most recently as rector of St. Luke and St. Simon Cyrene Church in Rochester, N.Y., where she was also an adjunct professor at Colgate Rochester Divinity School.

Bishop Harris is the past vice chair of the Church Pension Fund board of trustees and has served on the board of directors of CREDO (a national resource program fostering Episcopal Church clergy leadership and wellness) and the Steering Committee of Bishops Working for a Just World. She currently serves on the house of bishops theology committee and its pastoral development committee.

Bishop Harris is joined this week by the Right Reverend John P. Streit, dean of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Boston, who will also lead services on August 26. Prior to his cathedral post, he served for 11 years as Episcopal chaplain at Boston University. The Rev. Streit holds an A.B. in religion from Dickinson College and a master’s of divinity in pastoral theology from the Episcopal Divinity School.

Located across from the Steamship Authority in Oak Bluffs, Trinity Episcopal Church is the first Episcopal church built on Martha’s Vineyard. Services are at 9 a.m. through September.
