The Base at the YMCA is hosting a community open stage on Fridays in September. All ages are welcome to perform music, dance, spoken word, poetry, comedy (clean, please) and more. Each week, sign up begins at 6 p.m. or call 508-696-7171 to reserve a spot. The Base is an alcohol-free alternative to hear and play music. Some instruments are available on site or musicians can bring their own.

Tonight, Sept. 14, will be a special evening at the Base, featuring Kevin Montgomery who is on a 50-days-in-50-states tour to highlight the plight of teens in American who are aging out of foster care. Eighty per cent of teenagers who grow out of foster care go homeless within the first six months of aging out. For more information about this cause, visit orangeduffelbagfoundation.org.

Martha’s Vineyard will be the 22nd night of Mr. Montgomery’s tour. And if his lineage is any indicator, the show will be one to remember. His father was Buddy Holly’s first musical partner and penned songs such as Heartbeat, Wishing and Love’s Made a Fool of You. His mother sang with Elvis Presley on Suspicious Minds. The concert is hosted by Kate Taylor and Ali Berlow
