The Dukes County office will be selling antlerless deer permits for the hunting season this year. The county commissioners voted at their meeting Wednesday for the county to become an authorized vendor for hunting licenses. In addition to doe permits, the county office will sell all licenses, permits and stamps available from the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, including fishing, hunting or sporting licenses, recreational lobster permits and saltwater fishing permits.
The antlerless deer permits will not generate any revenue for the county, although the county will receive $1.50 for every license sold.
“I think it’d be good to do it because we’d have more of a down-Island location,” said Thomas Hallahan.
“If we feel like we have the resources to do it, we should,” said commisioner Carlene Gatting.
Currently the Chilmark and West Tisbury town clerks are authorized for selling antlerless deer permits. Permits can also be purchased online. The county office is located in the Martha’s Vineyard Airport complex near Flatbread Pizza.
The sale of anterless deer permits started on Oct. 9. The archery season runs from Oct. 15 to Nov. 24. The two-week shotgun season is from Nov. 26 to Dec. 8. Antique firearms season is from Dec. 10 to Dec. 31.
