Joanne (Jo) Ickler of Oak Bluffs and Hopedale died August 26 at the Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge. Her loving family members were with her. She was 76.

Jo was born in Spring Grove, Minn., the daughter of Adolph and Dorothy Larson. She grew up in Mabel, Minn., and moved with her husband Glenn to Massachusetts in 1983. They purchased their summer cottage at 3 Cottage Park in the Camp Ground in 1987.

She attended Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn., and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in social work. Jo was employed as a social worker in Minnesota and worked at a food brokerage in Massachusetts before retiring in 2002. She dealt with breast cancer and its complications for the last 30 years of her life.

The greatest loves of Jo’s life were her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She also loved square dancing, quilting and spending summers with Glenn at their gingerbread cottage. She designed and built the butterfly motif railings and trim for the cottage, which was featured in miniature form and pictured in a national magazine.

Jo is survived by her husband of 56 years, four sons, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, at the First Parish in Framingham, 24 Vernon Street.
