Coat or no coat? That has been the question of the week. First it is so cold that you have to wear a coat with a scarf and then the next day you are back down to shirts with maybe a sweater. Who knows what next week will bring?
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Victoria Marsh who celebrated her day Oct. 27; Tobias Russell Schaeffer, Oct. 29; Claire Cabral, Oct. 30; Joshua Brown, Oct. 31; Thiago Muniz, Gianni Navarrete and Tristan Scheller, who all celebrated Nov. 2; Gabriel Brito, Nov. 6; Katherine Purda, Nov. 7, and to Seamus McKeon and Jillian Pyden who both celebrated their day today, Nov. 8.
Halloween has come and gone but the candy is still left over. I love watching the kids guard their bag and pick out their favorite candies and how they decide to leave the best for last.
The only treats they couldn’t put in their bags were the ones from the Dairy Queen. Tony and Erika Bettencourt opened the doors and decorated for Halloween and each child who came in with a costume was given a treat of their choice. There were many small cones given out, but of course the favorite was the small blizzard. Both parents and kids left with smiles on their faces. A big thank you to Tony and Erika, who said it was their way to give back to the community.
The Anchors, Edgartown’s Council on Aging, will hold an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14 to honor Laurie Schreiber, the Anchors’ director of Senior Services. Laurie is retiring and her last day at the Anchors will be Nov. 22. She has been with the Edgartown Council on Aging for 28 years.
The Martha’s Vineyard Museum wants to hear from you. The museum will be hosting five community forums during the month of November to share ideas and discuss plans for the former Marine Hospital/St. Pierre School of Sport property. Museum staff and board members want to share objectives for the transformation of the former Marine Hospital St. Pierre School of Sport in Vineyard Haven with the community and get their feedback. Preliminary plans for the site will be presented followed by a discussion where people will have the opportunity to share comments and ideas and ask questions. Edgartown’s forum is on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at the Federated Church at 45 South Summer street.
The community forums will all take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and residents can go to any of the six meetings. You can visit mvmuseum.org to find out more.
The Edgartown School theatre will be presenting the play Annie Jr. on Nov. 15 and 16 at the Edgartown School. Tickets are $6 for kids, $8 for adults and $25 per family.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
