Anne Coghlan Whipple, widow of the late Robert J. Whipple, died on June 24 in her home in Worcester. She was 99.
Anne was born in Rolla, N.D., on April 8, 1915 to Cornelius and Sarah Coghlan. She graduated from Minot State Teachers College in North Dakota, and worked for various federal agencies in Washington, D.C., and New York during the 1930s and World War II. She was married to Budd Emile Pollak, an executive with the Amerace Corporation, from 1942 until his death in 1959.
She was married to Robert J. Whipple, a partner in the Worcester law firm of Fletcher, Tilton & Whipple, P.C. from 1960 until his death in 1997.
For many years, Anne was an officer of the Garden Club of America and a member of the Worcester Garden Club. She was also a longtime member of the Tatnuck Country Club in Worcester, the Riddles Bay Country Club in Bermuda, and the Edgartown Yacht Club in Edgartown, where she also had a home.
Anne is survived by a son, Michael C. Pollak of Shenorock, N.Y.; a daughter, Ellen C. Powers of Fairfield, Conn.; a stepson, Jeffrey T. Whipple of Edgartown; a stepdaughter, Wendy Whipple of West Tisbury; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
There are no calling hours. A private ceremony will be held in Edgartown at a later date.
