Well, happy Fourth of July. While I am writing this, I have been watching the weather and I wonder what this day is going to be like. I’m hearing there will be lots of rain and wind, but then I am hoping that Arthur veers off the coast. In any case, let’s just hope we can enjoy the Fourth and spend a good time with family.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Adam Smith and Jordan Souza who celebrated their day June 30; Cassidy Kelleher and Nolan Murphy on July 1, and to Chimari Dockery who celebrated his day on July 3.

Fourth of July has always been a very busy time for everyone. Before the school was built across Robinson Road, the parade participants were lined up all the way to the fire station, and they filled the parking lot of the school and the field of the Boys’ and Girls’ Club. Then, when it started, it went right in front of our house. I was working at the bank at that point and a lot fellow employees had little kids. They loved coming here so the kids could get a first-hand look at the line-up and then see the parade from beginning to the end. Of course, the end of the parade came back to the starting point, so you got to see the parade twice. Some of the floats just continued on up the road, but most ended up back at the school. It was a fun time with lots of food and drink, and watching the kids each year as they got older.

Of course, it wasn’t just the kids who loved it. Roland Goulart would bring his mother Rita in his car and back it into the driveway so she could enjoy it. Also, Violet Waters would be here sitting next to my mother Ruth, and they chatted up a storm as they were in Eastern Star together. Auntie A, (Avis) would be in her glory seeing old friends walk by. There are lots of great memories.

Whatever your memories are of the Fourth, I hope you have a safe and happy Fourth of July.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
