The Nantucket glides through smoky waters. Timothy Johnson

Thursday, January 8, 2015

A week into the new year, the Vineyard has had its first snap of bitter cold. The temperatures fell to 3 degrees in Edgartown overnight on Wednesday, with the wind chill making it feel even colder.

When the cold air meets warmer water, it creates steam fog, or sea smoke, a beautiful result of bitterly cold temperatures.

Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos. Love visiting my son and extended family on the Vineyard. It is amazing how many different changes can be created by Mother Nature.
