Well, spring has sprung but with a light dusting of snow over the weekend just to remind us that winter is really not over yet. Most of the snow has melted except for the massive snowbanks along some of the roads. A few more weeks and it will all disappear.
Palm Sunday services will be observed at Community Baptist Church of Gay Head on March 29 at 9 a.m., worship service conducted by Rev. Ellen Tatreau. Easter sunrise service will be held on April 5 at 6 a.m.
Aquinnah Public Library will have weekly events for the month of April. Special events coming up include seed planting on March 28 from noon to 3 p.m., and observing earth hour from 2 to 3 p.m. while conserving energy. The annual Spring Egg Hunt begins eggsactly at 10:30 a.m. on April 4, with lots of fun crafts and refreshments.

Susan Klein’s Spice of Life memoir writing workshop has been delayed to a starting date of April 21 with classes running through to June 16. To register, call Susan at 508-693-4140.
Jemima James will host the Island Moon Coffeehouse on April 2 at the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse. Her featured musicians that evening will be Isaac Taylor and Adam Howell. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 each.
Martha’s Vineyard Community Services Veterans’ Services hosts its first annual egg hunt celebrating veterans and their families on April 4 from 10 a.m. to noon. It will be at the Community Services campus across from the regional high school.

Congratulations to Natalie Francis on the birth of her first great-grandchild, Cara, who was born in North Carolina on Natalie’s birthday, March 16. Cara is the daughter of Felicia and her husband and the first grandchild of Louis Belain.
Noah James Manning returned home on Sunday afternoon after a quick trip to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to visit with his grandparents Bill and Joan Kistner. Joan has been recuperating at home from her recent hospitalization. Noah was accompanied by his parents Paul and Theresa.
Condolences to Danny Mayhew and his family in the unexpected death of his wife Ethel (Judy) Mayhew at their home on Tuesday morning. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Barbara Okun was in town for a few days to attend the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival with family and friends.
Condolences to the family and friends of Kathryn B. Stewart who passed away on March 20 at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Mrs. Stewart was our Gay Head School music teacher from the 1950s to the closing of the school in 1968, where she not only prepared us for the annual town Christmas party with carols and often a play but taught us note reading, phrasing, and diction, which was quite a feat for all six grades in the one-room school house. For nearly 30 years, Mrs. Stewart was our organist at Community Baptist Church of Gay Head. She will be missed greatly by many in our community and across the Vineyard. Her services were held on Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Tisbury, where she was a lifelong member, having written a history of both of our churches.
Get well wishes to Arnold Zack who underwent orthopedic surgery this past week and will be recuperating at Spalding Rehab Hospital.
Happy 33rd anniversary wishes to Mike and Carol Mayrand who celebrated on March 26.

April 1st is a day of celebration for Linda Fischer, Peggy Moore Yoars, Robin Meader and Alison Barrett. Audrey Jeffers-Mayhew parties on April 2 and shares the day with Jim Sharp and Levi Vanderhoop.
