Jim Thomas and his Spirituals Choir will present Songs from the Fields: The Mystery of Spirituals at the Katharine Cornell Theatre on Saturday, June 27, at 7 p.m.

The choir sings sitting down, as the slaves did, and with only percussion accompaniment. Choir director Jim Thomas explains how the songs evolved and the various purposes they served for their singers. This year the choir celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Tickets are $15 and are available at the door, with no charge for children under 12. Proceeds benefit the U.S. Slave Song Project, of which the Spirituals Choir is a part.
