The oral history collection, Vineyard Voices curated by Linsey Lee at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum, has been an Island staple for many years now. No coffee table is complete without the collection which tells the history of this place through the words of its Islanders. And on Tuesday, August 18, some of these stories are getting the big screen treatment.

The Martha’s Vineyard Film Center will host a screening at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday of five Vineyard Voices short films. Linsey Lee will introduce the film clips and lead the Q&A session afterwards. The stories include Civil Rights activities, an early African American church, the Island’s deaf community, the Shearer summer theatre and the founding of the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center.
