The first annual Martha’s Vineyard Community Tennis Pro Am, held at Farm Neck last Saturday, was a smashing success. Thirty-six amateurs and nine local pros participated in the event along with three celebrity pros: Todd Martin, former number four in the world, Tim Mayotte, former number seven in the world, and Katrina Adams, current president of the USTA and number eight in the world in doubles.

The pros conducted a youth and adult clinic at Vineyard Youth Tennis. When it came to tournament play, professionals served as captains with three amateurs subbing in and out of play. Tyler Owen’s Top Guns defeated Michael Halisky’s Meteors in the finals. Tyler’s team consisted of Kat Roberts, Randy Williams and Darren Petrucci. Event organizer Scott Smith said next year’s event will be even bigger and better.
