Well the weekend weather amounted to a last gasp burst of snow, wind and rain. Temperatures remain cool but winter is broken. Don’t forget that Sunday morning we will return to Daylight Saving Time so turn your clocks ahead Saturday night before bed so you will not be late for church. Spring will be here in a mere six days and that will not be soon enough for many of us. The car wash at Airport Mobil did a large amount of business Saturday and Sunday washing cars that had many layers of road salt and winter grime coated on them. Maybe washing the car is a sign that winter is finally over.

Anna Alley returned home Sunday night after an extended stay with Nicole, Arsen, and our grandsons Robbie, Henry, Edward and Mark. She helped to make things a bit easier on Nicole and help her with the new grandchildren.

Warren and Marilyn Hollingshead of Pond View Farm Road returned home on Wednesday after their annual six week vacation on Virgin Gorda Island. Warren reports that they had a wonderful time and the weather was just wonderful. They are so pleased they missed the coldest part of the winter.

Frank and Celeste Polagruto, of Great Pains Road, celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary last week. They had dinner cooked for them and they shared it with family and close friends. Frank reports that he received many good wishes directed to them on his Facebook page.

It appears that the annual town election will not have any contested races this year. No one is running for the board of health so a vacancy will be filled by write-in votes. Sharon Estrella retired from the finance committee but Chuck Hodgkinson is seeking her spot. There will be one override question. It will ask the town to exempt from the provisions of proposition two and one-half the amounts required to pay for the bond issued for the costs of constructing and equipping a new highway department building. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 14. The annual town meeting will consist of 42 articles, many of them zoning changes and purchase of equipment.

Patricia Cliggott reports that Lovingkindness opens its doors at 129 Indian Hill Road Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a big sale generating income to help our elders. A percentage of the sales will be devoted to prevention of elder abuse.

The Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse invites you to a spectacular floor show featuring Anna Yukevich and Jeremy Berlin Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. It is a fundraiser to help with the costs of refinishing the Patricia Neal Stage floor. The show will be held at their headquarters in Vineyard Haven.

On March 17, 1947 the Grange held a St. Patrick’s Day party at the Agricultural Hall. Upstairs was decorated with shamrocks and other green banners. More than 50 members were in attendance and several local musicians, Everett Whiting, Mike and Leonard Athearn, Ernest Correllus and Elmer Silva, gathered to play and sing Irish tunes. George Magnuson sang several Irish solos and received several standing ovations and he brought the house down with his rendition of When Irish Eyes are Smiling. A grand time was had by all. Refreshments and Irish mints were served by his wife, Lillian, and Alma Benson.
