It appears that the annual town election will not have any contested races this year. No one is running for the board of health so a vacancy will be filled by write-in votes. Sharon Estrella retired from the finance committee but Chuck Hodgkinson is seeking her spot. There will be one override question. It will ask the town to exempt from the provisions of proposition two and one-half the amounts required to pay for the bond issued for the costs of constructing and equipping a new highway department building. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 14. The annual town meeting will consist of 42 articles, many of them zoning changes and purchase of equipment.

I would like to close this week’s column with an old Irish blessing: “May you be in heaven half an hour before the Devil knows you’re dead!” Happy St. Patrick’s Day everybody.
