Spring is almost here! The temperatures have remained in the 40s for most of the week. We enjoyed one day when it was 60 degrees. Lots of blossoms everywhere. Rain to start the week and thick fog on Tuesday.

The Aquinnah Public Library will host a Saint Patrick’s Day fun time with creating crafts at 4 p.m. On Saturday, from 11 to 3 there will be cotton ball sheep crafts and from noon to 2 p.m. there will be a Pokémon party. On Tuesday evening, March 22 there will be an adult movie Brooklyn shown at the old town hall at 5 p.m. — popcorn will be served. On March 24 the book group meets to discuss The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin. On Saturday, March 26 it will be a fun filled time with everyone participating in the spring egg hunt with crafts and refreshments.

Community Baptist Church of Gay Head will have the following worship services during Holy Week, with Reverend Ellen Tatreau. Aquinnah town clerk Carolyn Feltz would like to let everyone know that nomination papers are ready for the following positions: library trustee, planning board, assessor, selectman, moderator, and board of health. Nomination papers require a minimum of 20 signatures and must be returned to Carolyn by April 6 at 5 p.m.

On Saturday, March 19 join in the fun at the new Island Wide Youth Collaborative building on the Martha’s Vineyard Community Services campus from 11 to 1. Play Yahtzee, Uno, backgammon, cribbage, mancala, and more. Refreshments will be provided. No registration required and children must be accompanied by an adult. Docents from Martha’s Vineyard Museum will make a presentation on Monday, March 21 at 1:30 at the Howes House in West Tisbury. This month the discussion will feature Priscilla Pearls. You will learn how herring from the Mattakesett Creek Fisheries in Edgartown were used to make stunning, lustrous pearl jewelry on the Vineyard in the 1920s. Wear your pearls on Monday.

The museum conversation is free to the public thanks to the support of the Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank Charitable Fund.

Bowl for the Arts will be held on March 19. Teams of up to four people of any age are encouraged to bowl for an hour and a half starting at 10 a.m., $200 per team to sign up supports Featherstone. Martha’s Vineyard Community Services is the recipient of Dine to Donate at Offshore Ale from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 24. Dine in or take out, coupons are available online or at the door. Support MVCS in their support of more than 6,000 people on the Vineyard year-round.

Nonie Madison and her husband Dan Sauer and their sons Waylon and Amos returned this week after spending two and a half weeks visiting several of the Hawaiian islands.

Their return signifies the re-opening of 7a as well.

Another highlight of Noah Manning’s winter vacation in sunny California was meeting up with his older brother Christopher Manning, who is serving in the U.S. Navy and met up with Noah, Paul, and Theresa for their first few days in California.

Wendy Swolinsky has returned from her winter vacation in Mexico. Just in time to assist with the 16th annual Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival this weekend.

Emily Quitsa Vanderhoop arrived a week ago with her son William Haoa from their home in Kauai, Hawaii for an indefinite stay in Aquinnah. Haoa has been enjoying spending his days with his grandfather, “Grampa Buddy.” We are assured he will learn valuable life lessons from Captain Buddy as Haoa is his only grandchild.

Condolences to the family and friends of George Gilman, who passed away on March 5 at the home of his son Michael Gilman on Jeffers Way. George moved from his home in Florida and had spent the past two years residing with Michael who was his primary caregiver. Services will be private.

Happy 28th anniversary wishes to Albert and Linda Fischer as they celebrate on March 20.

Happy birthday wishes this week to Christina Brown who celebrates Friday. Stop by Menemsha Texaco on Saturday to wish Marshall Carroll a happy one. Kristie Mayhew will party on the 20th. Our UPIS LAND Council on Aging outreach worker Ellen Sutter Reynolds will celebrate on the 22nd and shares the day with Annette Anthony, Tony Oliver, and twins Heidi Stutz and Cynthia Stutz Craig. March 23 is a day of celebration for Paul Galbraith, Renee Metell, Dan Sauer, Dwight Kaeka, and Nanauwe Ama Vanderhoop who will be sixteen. Aretha Witham, Rya Baird, Karen Van Brakle, and Hal Child share the day on March 24.
