I was listening to the weather this morning and they said after this weekend it would be warmer and sunny. I still have my doubts as we always go from 0 to 100 in a day so we will see.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Sasha Kagan and Nicholas Rabeni, who celebrated their day May 2; Paige Anderson, May 3; and to Tayla BenDavid, Aleeya Holley and Hector Oliveira, who all celebrated their day May 5.
Special birthday wishes to retired chief of police Tony Bettencourt who celebrated his day May 1.
This is the weekend of Pink and Green. I like to call it Lily Pulitzer weekend as they are the colors that she introduced many years ago in town when the shop was next to the Seafood Shanty. But I have learned that they are also the town colors. So there are many events this weekend in town.
As per tradition, Donaroma’s is starting the weekend off with an open house tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. with the Kentucky Derby theme as it is the big race weekend. So if you are reading this today Friday come down and enjoy the flowers and decorations and refreshments.
We all know Jonathan Polleys as the paint man at the Edgartown Hardware. Well, April 28, Jonathan celebrated his 25th anniversary at Edgartown Hardware. He was hired by Lauress Fisher, then when Lauress retired, he worked for Bill Anderson, then for the past 15 years he worked for John and Pat Montez, who now live in Florida, but came up from the occasion. Now that John and Pat are semi-retired Jonathan works for their son and daughter in law John and Kat.
Many friends and family attended the celebration, including all the staff that now works there plus former and retired persons including Polly Emin, Lela Gilkes, who is also Jon’s mother in law, Linda Metell and of course his wife Tina. Due to illness, his mom Barbara Polleys was unable to attend the celebration but many remember Barbara at the register at the downtown location.
They celebrated with a cake and Jhon and Pat presented Jon a bonus check and special shirts with Jon’s name printed in silver thread along with 25 years of service printed under his name.
Congratulations Jonathan and I can’t wait to hear what happens at your 50-year anniversary!
I wish all the special ladies a very happy Mother’s Day. May your day be full of love and flowers and lots of phone calls.
Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
