Seven passengers traveling on a Vineyard Transit Authority bus sustained minor injuries following an accident at the Triangle intersection in Edgartown Tuesday involving the bus and a car.
Both vehicles were traveling inbound toward downtown Edgartown at the time of the crash, around 11 a.m. Tuesday, Edgartown police said in a press release. The driver of the 2016 Jeep Compass, 59-year-old Mark Allen Anderson of Fargo, N.D., had stopped at the stop sign at the end of the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road and tried to make a U-turn onto Beach Road, police said. The VTA bus was traveling down Beach Road at the time and was unable to avoid the collision, police also said.
The bus had approximately 30 passengers on board at the time. In addition to Edgartown police, EMS from Edgartown, Oak Bluffs and Tisbury responded to the scene, transporting seven VTA passengers to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for what police said appeared to be minor injuries.
Traffic was backed up in all directions for some time during the response.
Police said the operator of the vehicle was found at fault and was cited for failure to yield at the intersection.
