Alison Shaw first started visiting the Island as a kid, spending summers with her grandparents. She moved here full time in the 1970s and soon began chronicling the Island with her camera. She is such an iconic figure in the landscape here, revealing the Island in ways the observer understands and yet didn’t’ think about before seeing her photographs, that it seems almost odd to say she is celebrating just her 10th year as a gallery owner. Could it be only that long?

In any case, Ms. Shaw will host a 10th anniversary of the opening of her gallery, which she co-owns with her wife Sue Dawson, this Saturday, July 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be food and drink and, of course, samples of her extensive body of work on display.

The gallery is located in the Arts District in Oak Bluffs, in a former one-engine firehouse located at 88 Dukes County avenue.
