Our long-haired tortoiseshell cat, Precious, is still acclimating to life at the shelter but is beginning to come out of her shell more and more. She is a good sized girl, seven years of age. Please come meet her and see if she could be the cat of your dreams, or even just visit and help with her ongoing socialization.

Kyra, our stunning three year old Native American shepherd dog, is getting more and more confident and is now ready for adoption. Gentle training will need to be continued but she is extremely intelligent and catches on quickly. Kyra is a large girl and very beautiful, about 50 to 60 pounds. Sweet as can be, yet may always be on the timid side, which is a characteristic of her breed. She would do best in a home with a large fenced yard. Please come meet this lovely girl and see if there’s a place for her in your heart. She needs a gentle, loving home with consistency.

Another dog available for adoption is Tempe. She is a seven year old black Labrador retriever/hound mix, good with both children and cats. Please contact the shelter if you would like to meet her so a meeting can be arranged. She will be staying with her family until a new home can be found.

Year-old calico mama Colleen is still being socialized and is warming up to people. She has been spayed and is now ready for adoption. Colleen would make an excellent barn cat. Her two kittens, Pounce, the orange boy, and Tennessee, the tuxedo boy, are about 10 weeks old now and are ready to go to their new homes. And our other two kittens, Bonnie and Clyde, have gone to their forever homes.

The Animal Shelter of Martha had so much fun at the Fourth of July parade. Thanks to everyone who came out for the event.

Now that summer is here the shelter would like to remind all pet owners how quickly temperatures rise in a closed vehicle. Please do not leave your pets in what can rapidly become a deadly situation. Additionally, please be mindful of how hot the asphalt and pavement can be on delicate paws.

Shelter hours are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shelter is closed Sunday and Monday. The telephone number is 508-627-8662.
