Harold Lawry of West Tisbury was the champion at the Martha’s Vineyard Rod and Gun Club trap championship held August 14.
Mr. Lawry came in first among his year’s 15 trap shooters by breaking 45 of the 50 targets released.
Ray Sylvia from Oak Bluffs came in second with a score of 42 out of 50 broken targets, while Sandy Marx from Chappaquiddick came in third with a score of 38 out of 50.
The competition took place on a hot day, and participants took aim during two rounds of 25 targets; they could enter more than one game to choose their best score the championship.
The 22 long rifle rim fire shoot will be held at the Rod and Gun Club from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, August 27 and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 28. This is the club’s second long rifle event, and they hope to the contest will be well-attended and become an annual affair. Prizes will be awarded and refreshments available.
