The first of the off-season Chappy Community Center potlucks will be hosted by Leslie Floyd on Wednesday, Sept. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. Potlucks are held throughout the fall, winter and spring on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. Hosts are needed for all of the upcoming potlucks. Call Lynn at 508-627-8222 , email chappycc@verizon.net, or sign up when you are at the next potluck. Please bring a dish for six.
The Chappy Store is open for business from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 2. There’s always something good in the ice cream freezer. Nefetiti has all of the basics. Save a trip to town.
The Slip Away farm stand will continue to be open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Columbus Day weekend. They still have lots of flowers, fresh veggies, Chilmark coffee, Mermaid Farm yogurt and local meats.
The fishing derby started last Sunday and runs through Saturday, Oct. 15. The Chappy ferry goes back on to the winter schedule the next night, Oct. 16. This year the On Time II has to be hauled out of the water for Coast Guard inspection and maintenance. Fortunately, that leaves behind the longer of the two ferryboats to handle the traffic alone. Ideally the On Time II would head to Vineyard Haven in early October. The warmer weather makes the work go much more quickly and she will be back in service sooner.
