The Living Local Harvest Festival begins on Friday, Sept. 30 with a night of stories moderated by Susan Klein. The theme is “Back in the Day” and will harken back to simpler times. But was there ever really a ‘simple’ time, here or anywhere else? Living a local life has always been complex, and often hard, which makes celebrating this way of life all the more important.

The storytelling is from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury. Dessert and coffee will be served.

On Saturday, also on the grounds of the Agricultural Hall, the event spans nearly the entire day, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a host of discussions, booths, interactive workshops, music, games, pumpkin carving, horse rides, food and more food. Over the years, the annual event has come to celebrate not just fall and the local harvest, but also the past, present and future of this place. It is a full meal in every sense of the word.

On Saturday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. there is a community supper hosted by the Scottish Bakehouse, with Island produce donated by Slip Away Farm, Thimble Farm, Whippoorwill Farm and North Tabor Farm, including local roasted pork and vegetables, grain salad, Morning Glory Farm pumpkin cake, and cider. Music and dancing with the PickPocket Bluegrass Band begins at 6 p.m. and rocks until 9 p.m.

Admission is free.
