On Saturday, August 13 at 6 p.m. on a warm, humid and windy evening with the whispering sounds of an acoustic guitar and saxophone blowing in the wind, Sherry Grancey and Gary Chag were married by their dear friend, Christine Colley, a retired federal attorney residing in the Charlestown Navy Yard who was a sworn justice of the peace for the day.

The ceremony was performed at the Edgartown Lighthouse. Guests were welcomed with waves from the bride and bridegroom to climb the stairs and enjoy the panoramic Edgartown and Chappy harbor views. Afterwords, all walked barefoot through the sandy, tall grassy path to the Harbor View for a champagne and oyster toast.

Gary is a commercial airline pilot. Sherry is a real estate attorney and broker and has been a seasonal Edgartown resident for many years in her cottage by the sea. The couple spends their time traveling between their homes on the Island, on Boston Harbor and on the lake at Pine River Pond in New Hampshire.

Sherry won the Gazette’s summer photo contest in 1997 with her picture of her sister and her Hawaiian boyfriend in Katama stealing a kiss in her jeep with the bikes on the back — ready to go to South Beach.
