On Saturday, Dec. 17, the Vineyard Conservation Society and the Vineyard Haven Business Association are getting together to celebrate the Island’s first Bring Your Own Bag event.

What does that mean? All customers in town who bring their own bags will qualify for a variety of promotions at various stores.

Vineyard Conservation Society will also be on hand from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to offer holiday cheer and reusable bags.

The event is a recognition of the vote last spring to reduce the Island’s use of disposable plastic bags, which goes into effect in five of six Island towns on New Year’s Day.
