The West Tisbury police department has received state certification from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission.

Accreditation is voluntary, and requires police departments to meet and maintain 159 standards. The process includes self-assessment and a site review. The West Tisbury police department was assessed in September by a team of assessors appointed by the accreditation commission.

Police chief Daniel Rossi appointed Lieut. Matthew Mincone to serve as the department’s accreditation manager.

According to a press release, certification provides a basis for the police department to judge its performance, promotes accountability, and enhances the department’s reputation.

Certification is granted for a three-year period.
