New England has certainly not disappointed us this past month. We were walking around in a long sleeved shirts, pants and light shoes. Now this week we are back to boots, long coats, sweaters etc. And this weekend we are back to the Arctic freeze. But wait a minute and it will change again.

Happy birthday to all those who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Ryan Nola and Domminy Ribeiro, March 5, and to Addison McDonough and Keira Willoughby who celebrate their day Friday March 10.

What a difference a weekend makes. The people are back from vacation. The Edgartown West Tisbury Road was once again humming at 7:30 Monday morning with the teachers going back to school, and a short time later the parents rushing to get the kids to school on time.

The Scottish Society Songsters will present a concert titled My Heart’s in the Highlands at the Edgartown Public Library on Saturday, March 11, at 3 p.m. Songs by Scotland’s favorite poet, Robert Burns, will be sung, along with a new Scotland Song by Island poet Steve Ewing, set to music by Dorian Lopes. Philip Dietterich directs the Vineyard Scottish songbirds.

There have been pictures on Facebook of people’s spring flowers. My crocuses are in full bloom and my daffodils are budding. It is hard to believe that something that looks so delicate can survive the harshness of the cold and wind and freezing rain. But they are standing tall and telling us that spring is on its way.

Don’t forget to keep in mind to go to bed early this weekend as we lose an hour of sleep on Sunday and we spring the clocks forward. Also, don’t forget to check the batteries in the smoke detectors.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
