Rain, rain, and more rain. Dampness and cold all week with windy conditions. Summer must be peeking around the corner. All the beautiful blossoms are now windblown. The rosa rugosa are in bloom along the beaches awaiting summer.
The Aquinnah Public Library schedule for the week includes: story time on Saturday June 10 at 10:30 a.m., and from 11 to 3 is kids craft: craft stick monsters. On Tuesday, June 13 at 4 p.m. is after-school club. Save the date: on Thursday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. Nancy Aronie will be speaking at the library as part of the Islanders Read the Classics series. Nancy will present the book Be Here Now by Ram Dass.
Aquinnah town clerk Carolyn Feltz reminds all that Philbin Beach parking stickers will be required as of Friday, June 16. Philbin Beach and resident parking permits are available now at town hall. Hours are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Once Philbin opens, the schedule will change. If you would like a new resident parking permit before June 30, please bring your 2016 permit to exchange. If you have questions, call Carolyn at 508-645-2304.
Natalie Francis will open the Aquinnah landfill drop-off on the additional Saturday summer schedule as of June 10 and until October 14. Saturday hours will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Charlotte Cook has arrived for her summer sojourn and will be joined this week by her husband Craig Rakela for the summer.
Eric and Bobbie Malkin have arrived this week for a stay at his aunt Hannah Malkin’s home on Lighthouse Road. The sun will be out before their stay ends.
Congratulations to the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School class of 2017 as they graduate on Sunday.
Phil Dietterich and Peter Boak will lead the Sunday morning worship service at the Federated Church on June 11. Using the church’s hymnal, Hymns, Psalms, and Spiritual Songs, they will lead a guided hymn sing revealing often undiscovered or unknown facts found on the pages of the hymnal. The congregation will also have an opportunity to choose some of their favorite hymns to sing during the morning worship service. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Federated Church, 45 South Summer street in Edgartown. For more information call 508-627-4421.
Another late night visit to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital Emergency Room and grateful it was running as smoothly as always despite the recent turmoil. Thank you to Dr. Karen Casper and nurses Kate C., Lisa, Mark P., Natasha H., and Nancy T. All is well that ends well and I feel much improved as of Wednesday morning.
Happy anniversary wishes to Matthew and Jenny Born, who are celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary next week. They honeymooned in what is now his parents’ house but was at the time owned by the Spitz family. The fishing was so good that they never really left.
Happy 50th anniversary to Kevan and Marcie Nichols as they celebrate their special day on June 18.
