The words and spirit of James Joyce will come alive again in Vineyard Haven as Arts and Society presents the 39th annual Bloomsday celebration. The evening of music, drama, and humor based on the Irish novelist takes place Friday, June 16 at 8 p.m. at the Katharine Cornell Theatre.

Cellist Jan Hyer will perform an overture of music based in Joyce novels, while Lia Kahler will sing several songs featured in his works, including Habanera from Carmen. Gerry Yukevich will perform Araby from Dubliners, composer and pianist Philip Dietterich and soprano Molly Conole will perform three settings the poetry collection Chamber Music, and Pam Schnatterly returns as Molly from Ulysses.

John Crelan creates and organizes the yearly celebration on the Vineyard.
