George E. (Ged) Delaney died July 25 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after a brief battle with cancer.
Ged was a true lover of the sea, having imported, raced and restored sailboats of many descriptions. He was an avid and skilled sailor very much at home in any sailing conditions.
He was an active member of the Woods Hole Yacht Club and sailed his 33-foot Finnish-built boat, Ardent, out of Great Harbor.
Since the early 1980s he participated yearly in the Moffett race. He won the Moffett in 1984 and even given a low handicap went on to place in the top 10 for several years. He sailed many times to the Vineyard and Nantucket over the last 40 years.
Ged turned his passion into working 35 years as a yacht broker and traveled to many places to learn and sail different boats.
He will be missed by his friends in the sailing community. Sail on, Ged.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, and sister Susan Lawrence of Needham. A private memorial will be held this weekend in Woods Hole.
