Gloria Steinem was there. Germaine Greer was there. Betty Friedan was there. Bella Abzug in her signature hat was there. If you saw the holiday card I posted this year you know darn well I was there. Women’s March down Fifth Avenue, early Seventies. “Join Us!” we shouted. So many did. Leaving their offices, leaving the stores, leaving their husbands on the sidewalks and their boyfriends scratching their heads. So went the Second Wave. I cannot believe I still must draw attention to this situation. But I shall be at Five Corners at 1 p.m. this weekend in solidarity with the Sisterhood. With me in spirit are three dear friends who send support to the Sisterhood on Martha’s Vineyard: Rhonda Griffin, Denise Dupre and Marganna Roberts. Join us, time’s up.

A great after party to our demonstration on Saturday will be music at Pathways in Chilmark Saturday night. Island musicians Jemima James, Nate DeAngelo, and Nina Violet are among our favorites who will be featured. Trust me, all you feminists who meet us at the demonstration will still be too cranked up to sleep. I’ll see you there.

A whole lot of teasing is going on between me and Cousin Andy Gardella in Florida about the upcoming game. I christened Andy with a new title yesterday, G.O.A.T. Gardella of All time. I wanted to cheer him up regarding his team’s impending loss.

Susan Shea has outdone herself again sending me one of her handmade cards. What an artist! We are so lucky to have her.

You probably saw the damage on the corner of Main and Union streets. Two very large trucks went up Union from the boat. Much too tight a turn. Part of the railing to the sidewalk is down. We might have to rethink this traffic pattern.

Amy Ryan sent word that Art in the Stacks is showing the photography of Benjamin McCormack through Feb. 15. Ben shoots from the macro perspective, mainly underwater. His love of fishing and fish guide his subject. The exhibit may be viewed during regular library hours, downstairs.

Nelson Sigelman will hold forth on his new book on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. in the library program room. You know this is going to be fun.

Get well wishes to the many on-Island suffering from winter colds, flu and cabin fever. Hard to believe, but spring is almost here.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Elizabeth Blair. On Saturday, Jan. 20, Liz Blair takes the cake. Many happy returns.
