We have a new arrival. His name is Trooper and he’s a year old brown golden doodle. Trooper is a sweet dog that loves to play. He’s about 70 pounds but has a gentle nature. He’s looking for a forever home with someone who can keep up with his energy, and continue his training. A fenced yard wouldn’t be a bad thing. Could that home be yours?

The cat of the week is Cully. Cully is nine-year-old male Russian blue with big golden eyes. He’s a calm, shy boy with a big purr. He’s very out of sorts here at the shelter and has been keeping to himself, but once in a permanent home he’ll be a real lover, since he especially enjoys being held and pet. Come in and meet him and maybe fall in love. He needs a real home.

Spending time in the cat room with Cully are two females, Nesta and Holly. Nesta is a very sweet 14-year-old tuxedo who is coming out of her shell and seeking affection more and more. She has perfect tuxedo markings and a cute black spot on her upper lip. Holly is a tabby of about five. She is looking for a home with someone with the patience to allow her to be herself and set the boundaries. This girl needs to feel at home and then her sweet side will blossom.

We have two very beautiful long haired female cats found in the vicinity of Windermere Road in Oak Bluffs. Wilma is black with eyes so golden they appear orange, and Gracie is a light and dark gray tabby with a puffy tail. Gracie is the friendlier of the two. She’s a lap cat that purrs all the time with a cute little purr and also gives kisses and comes to greet you. Wilma, who may be her daughter, is a bit shyer but also adores affection and purrs and purrs. Both are lovely, sweet, indoor/outdoor cats that are still quite young. They would be great for families with children. Mel is still looking for that special bunny lover to come and release him from his caged existence. He really needs to hop around and stretch his legs. He is a large white lop-eared rabbit with brindle ears, one stands up while the other flops down. He also happens to be neutered. As rabbits go you couldn’t do better than Mel. He’s very friendly, enjoys sitting in a lap and being pet or brushed, and he even talks in quiet grunts. Could you be the one to make Mel’s life complete and give him freedom?

Thank you to everyone who showed up for the nail clinic on April 21. It was the most successful clinic to date. The next one will be May 12 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the shelter.

The Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Spay and Neuter Wagon will be at the shelter May 9 for their last visit of the season. If you have a pet that needs to be spayed or neutered please contact your local animal control officer for more details. Their next visit will be in September.

And remember that Edgartown’s Pink and Green Weekend is coming up Mother’s Day weekend. Please join us for the dog show where dogs dressed in pink and green vie for a prize. You and your dog can choose to participate, or just come by to join the fun.

Lastly, if anyone needs any crates or dog food, please stop in to pick some up. We have an abundance of both and are happy to share.
