Voters in West Tisbury agreed to change the tax collector from an elected to an appointed position in a single-question special town election Thursday.

The change was approved 123-13. Turnout was low with only 136 voters casting ballots, or about 5.4 per cent of the 2,523 registered.

The town will now consolidate the tax collector and treasurer positions into one job.

The special election was the final step in a process that included a vote at the annual town meeting in April.
