Charles Francis Milnes died suddenly after a short illness on August 21 in Surrey, England. He was 88 and had been a longtime summer visitor to Edgartown.

He was an RAF veteran, music lover, athlete and beloved father of Julie Jaffray, Caroline Cronson and Paul Milnes. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara in 1999, whose last few years were also spent visiting the Vineyard, walking on Lighthouse Beach and enjoying meals in Menemsha and walks around Gay Head. He continued to enjoy his later years with his adored grandchildren, Christopher, Isobel, Noah and Imogen. Summers and Christmases were spent in Edgartown with family and friends. He loved his regular Vineyard Gazette delivery in England where the whole family would catch up with wildlife scouting (he was a great fan of Gus Ben David) and local news, especially checking out house prices.

His family will miss him terribly.
