Andrew J. Denalsky died on Sept. 6.

Born in Hartford on Nov. 13, 1937, son of the late Andrew and Mary Denalsky, Andy was a lifelong resident of Tariffville/Simsbury. He attended Tariffville Elementary School, graduated from Simsbury High School Class of 1955 and attended Central Connecticut State College where he excelled in basketball and baseball.

He married his childhood sweetheart, Dorothy, and they moved to Long Island, N.Y. and then eventually back to Simsbury to raise their family. They enjoyed summering on Martha’s Vineyard and in Maine. Andy was called to serve his country and upon his discharge from the US Army, he became a member of the Simsbury Police Dept, retiring as Sergeant. After many years of service Andy retired to Embden, Me. where he and Dottie spent many years with family and friends. After Dottie’s and Cinton’s deaths in 2014, Andy moved to Agawam.

He will be remembered by his family and friends for his many Maine hunting, fishing and camping trips; his beautiful paintings and wood carvings, his passion for fly tying, great sense of humor and, above all, his devotion to his family.

Andy was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Denalsky and their son, Clinton Denalsky. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Leigland, and his son, Kurt Denalsky, as well as his devoted grandchildren, Avery Leigland, Kyle and Kalyn Denalsky; his brother, Joseph Denalsky; his sisters Patricia Carto, Lorraine Curtiss and Maryilyn Doucette; his sister in law Patricia Banks as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

A mass of Christian interment will be celebrated on Friday, Sept. 14, 10 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church, 942 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury. Interment with military honors will follow in Simsbury Cemetery.
