Well, we had a taste of Florence late last week and into the weekend. Hundreds of leaves fell due to the rain. A smattering of pumpkins, mums and Halloween displays are beginning to appear around town as it is just 33 days away on Friday. Sunset is getting earlier by the day plus cooler temperatures and memories of September that seemed to have slipped by before you knew it. Some vines and a few trees the leaves have begun to turn but it will be until after Halloween that we will see some fine fall color. The VTA fall bus schedules begin on Sunday. Roger Williams can be heard in a distance playing the piano and singing his classic Autumn Leaves. Harry Athearn reports that Monday is International Coffee Day and Thursday is Taco Day.

She watched 22 wild turkeys cross the road, bringing traffic to a halt, many of the drivers or passengers got out of their cars to film the event. All turkeys made it safely down her driveway and into Carol Craven’s field.

Mass Wildlife reports that bow and arrow season for deer will open on Monday and run through Nov. 24. The reason for the extension of the season, that includes Cape Cod and the islands, is the heavy deer population where upwards of 80 deer per square mile are estimated, well above the management goal of six to 18 deer per square mile. Shotgun season will begin the Monday after Thanksgiving on Nov. 26 and run until Dec. 8.
