A large blocking high over Canada’s Hudson Bay this week displaced the polar vortex southward, pouring the continent's coldest air into New England. Meanwhile a strong, upper-level low pressure system tracked eastward from the Midwest, speeding the frigid air of the jet stream on its way into our region. This, in the parlance of meteoroligists, is by way of saying it's been wicked cold.
Sounds like February to us.
