We are heading into a long holiday weekend as Monday is President’s Day so the schools, post office, library and all other town buildings will be closed. School vacation week, for our schools, starts Monday Feb. 25 this year and many of you will be taking a winter break off-Island.
Several stores will be offering special sales on Monday.
The regional school students will present a winter musical As You Like It, with performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center.
There are just 22 days until you move your clock ahead to Daylight Saving Time.
Business at Chilmark Chocolates was brisk last weekend and on Valentine’s Day. It is hard to believe they are closing down at the end of this year.
Anna Alley traveled to North Attleboro last weekend to celebrate the birthday of our grandson Henry Hambardzumian. They all went up to Boston and the science museum for the day on Sunday. Anna returned home Tuesday evening.
Last Friday, Bobbie Lima left to spend the month of February in London, England where she will be in training at the London Psychodrama Institute. She will also visit her son Daniel Whiting and his wife Katie in Wilmslow, one of the most sought-after places to live in the United Kingdom. She is hoping that spring will be in the air and the grass beginning to turn green when she returns.
Arlen Wise reports that it is very important to support the food pantry which helps Islanders from all towns in need of food. They have made some changes in the past two years and now purchase and receive food from the Greater Boston Food Bank. This allows them to distribute a greater variety of food and some costly essentials like diapers, toilet paper, soap and shampoo.
We need monetary contributions as well as donations of groceries. There are purple boxes all around the Island for food donations. They can also use volunteers to help stack, sort and distribute the food.
Olivia Larsen, over at the library, reports on some of their activities next week. Tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. Roxanne Kapitan will lead a Regenerative Backyard Gardening Workshop. The event is presented by IGI. Also at 3 p.m., come to a book talk with Susan Klein and Alan Brigish. They will present their newest book, Joyce’s Way. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
