We reach the culmination of holy week celebrated by Christians everywhere and Sunday is Easter. The Rev. Cathlin Baker reminds us of the church services: at 9 a.m. a traditional service will be held in the church sanctuary and at 11 a.m. a community service and the annual Easter egg hunt will be held at the Agricultural Hall.

The weather last Sunday was delightful. T-shirts and shorts were the dress of the day and the grass is turning green.

Colleen Morris reports that this is National Frog and National Poetry Month.

The 27th annual Earth Day Beach Clean Up will take place from 10 a.m. to noon tomorrow, sponsored by the Vineyard Conservation Society. A lunch will follow at the Oak Bluffs Sailing Camp.

Susan Block spotted three white-tailed deer walking down Music street Tuesday morning just before they made a hard right onto the Newhall property. She figured they were out strolling and enjoying the spring weather.

Anna Alley of State Road, returned home on Thursday after a whirlwind weekend visiting her brother Donnie and his wife Christina in New York, Denise Mount and her husband Don Evon in Canton, Ct. then flying down to Washington, D.C., with Denise to visit Fern and Stephen Bleckner, attend cherry blossom weekend festivities, and visit her grandchildren who were vacationing in D.C. with their parents. On her return she briefly visited her sister Nina and her husband Dr. Dieter Pohl in Providence and shopped before returning home.

Catha and Dave Carlson of New York city were in town last week vacationing at their home. They expect to spend more time here this summer.

Sam Alley was off-Island for a few days last week attending to business before he returned to work at Vineyard Gardens.

Old friend Jerry Millett died last week in Florida; he was a summer fixture for many years. Condolences to his family. And Angie (Waldron) Madison died last Saturday night. She was raised across the street from the store. My condolences to her family.

We have had a fair amount of visitors this week including college kids seeking jobs.

Harry Athearn noticed ducks and geese in the Mill Pond several mornings this week.

Olivia Larsen over at the library reports that the spring egg hunt will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. Gather outside the front entrance to the library. Bring your own basket for gathering. After the hunt, the library will offer a tissue paper egg family craft in the children’s room. At 3:30 p.m. all are invited to a reception to honor the work of Island artist Donna Straw. The library will be closed on Easter. On Monday at 7 p.m. MVY Radio’s Dave Kish will present a jazz film followed by discussion.
