Melvin Holman 3rd Was Loving and Happy Child

Melvin Holman 3rd died on July 14 in New York city. He was born on Oct. 19, 1982 to Cheryl Starks and Melvin Holman Jr. at Harlem Hospital in New York city. Melvin was a loving and happy child, and was loved and adored by everyone he touched.

He attended school at PS 138 in Manhattan since the age of almost five. Melvin resided at 2369 First avenue for the past five years.

Melvin was known for his love of music. Many can recall moments that they shared with him enjoying his tunes or special songs. It was said at times we didn't know if Melvin understood what we were saying to him, but when we played his music, we knew he understood that.

Melvin leaves to cherish his memories, his mother, Mrs. Cheryl Starks-Payne; his stepfather, Nembhard Payne; his father, Melvin Holman Jr.; his grandmother, Mrs. Grace Holman; his grandfather, Robert Starks Sr.; his godmother and aunt, Mary; his godfather, Eric; his sisters, Tashawna, Mary, Hadiyyah, Shaniqua, Rahquel, Charnele, Brianna and Jessica; his brother-in-law, Damon; his aunts, Mary, Phyllis, Alicia, Dorothy and Betty Ann; his uncles, Robert Jr., Marshall, Rochon, Ulysses and Johnny; three nieces, Danielle, Destiny and Iris; and a host of great aunts and uncles, teachers, caseworkers and friends. He will be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Oak Bluffs. Arrangements are under the care of the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs.
