Jonathan Patrick Billings Was Oak Bluffs Native

Jonathan Patrick Billings of Oak Bluffs died suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital. He was the beloved son of Donald and Nancy (Knight) Billings of Oak Bluffs and the brother of David Billings and Amy Billings.

His struggle with what life handed him was met with a cheerful nature and sense of humor. He was a graduate of the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School and a former volunteer fireman. He had a loving and generous heart and the Vineyard and its waters were in his soul. He was a commercial fisherman and a fish buyer.

A bright light went out for his daughters, Kara and Keri Best of Vineyard Haven; a brother, David Billings and his children, Jamie Lynn and Samantha Billings; a sister, Amy and her husband, Chris Welch and son, Andrew Welch; his fiancée, Teddilyn Adorno; his grandparents, Kenneth and Frances Marsh; his aunts and uncles, Raymond and Doris Billings of Vineyard Haven, John and Shirley Cooledge of Naples, Fla.; his cousins on the Island, in Connecticut, Florida and Maine, and his devoted friend and mentor, Billy Sweeney.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Oak Bluffs. Contributions in Jonathan's name may be made to the Vineyard House Inc., P.O. Box 3311, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557 or to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road, Oak Bluffs.
