John F. Meade, 64, Was Textbook Sales Manager

John F. Meade, 64, of Edgartown died unexpectedly of drowning on Sept. 14.

Mr. Meade was born and raised in West Roxbury, the son of the late John F. and Monica (Burke) Meade, and attended Boston public schools. He had lived on Martha's Vineyard for the past 10 years after living most of his lifetime in West Roxbury. He was graduated from Boston University, the School of Public Relations and Communications, where in his senior year he was president of the Newman Club (the Catholic club of the university) under the guidance of Father Norman J. O'Connor.

After graduation he went to work at Addison-Wesley Publishing Company in Reading where he became the top salesman in the country of modern mathematics textbooks and was promoted to regional sales manager for New England.

After leaving Addison-Wesley, he continued in endeavors in the educational field. He spent his retirement years as a limousine driver on Martha's Vineyard.

He is survived by three sons, John Meade of Vineyard Haven, Richard Meade of Centerville and Michael Meade of Mashpee; two grandchildren, and a sister, Joanne Meade-Verdolino of Falmouth. He is also survived by his former wife, Katherine Daigle of Brevard, N.C., and his dear friend, Norma Souza of Edgartown.

Visiting hours will be held at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main street, Falmouth Center on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Funeral services and interment will be private.
