Lottie E. Hewitt, 89, Was Formerly of Edgartown
Lottie E. Hewitt, a resident of Edgartown for more than 40 years, died Friday, Oct. 11, in Apple Valley, Calif., where she lived the last 13 years.
Mrs. Hewitt was born Nov. 1, 1913 in East Bridgewater, and resided in North Easton before moving to the Island in 1947. She was a member of the Oriental Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She attended the Federated Church in Edgartown and was a member of its Unity Club. In her early years on the Island she was a Girl Scout leader and was involved in other community activities. Mrs. Hewitt had a passion for sewing, and her memory lives on in many Island homes adorned by the beautiful draperies she created in concert with Madeline's Interiors.
She is survived by her daughter, Ruth, and husband Armand Freitas of Apple Valley; grandsons Michael Hewitt of Edgartown and Matthew Hewitt of Marietta, Ga.; granddaughters Paula Hiesener of Apple Valley and Lisa Erwin of Tucson, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hewitt was predeceased by her husband, Albert Hewitt; sons, Albert Jr. and Richard; her sister, Ruth Case of Edgartown, and three brothers, George, Augustus and Edwin Holster.
A memorial service will be held on Oct. 20 in Apple Valley, Calif. Interment of her ashes in the family plot at Westside Cemetery in Edgartown will take place at a later date.
