Lawrence H. Pease, 74, Was Active as Volunteer

Lawrence H. Pease, 74, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and West Tisbury, died of cancer on Sunday, Jan. 12, at his home in Florida.

Mr. Pease was born in New Britain, Conn. He attended The Forman School and Morse Business College.

From 1950 to 1952, Mr. Pease served in the Korean War in the U.S. Army 10th Airborne Ranger Company. After returning from the service, he began his career at the New Britain Machine Company, where he worked for 15 years. For two years he ran his own machine tool company, and completed his career in machine tool sales at the Robert E. Morris Company. During his retirement he pursued his interests which included gardening, golf, sailing and travel.

While raising his family, Mr. Pease was president of the Southington PTA, coached midget football for many years and was instrumental in the formation of the New Britain Cooperative Nursery School. He was active in his church, including serving as deacon at the First Congregational Church of New Britain and the First Congregational Church of Port St. Lucie. After moving to Florida, he was a volunteer at the Port St. Lucie Medical Center.

Mr. Pease was dedicated to his own recovery in Alcoholics Anonymous as well as sponsoring many in need. His many friends in AA would have known him as Larry.

Mr. Pease leaves his wife, Bette (Tebbe Davis); sons, Lawrence Jr. of San Francisco, Calif., Chandler of Lyman, Me., Ronald of Plainville, Conn., and Todd of Griswold, Conn.,; daughters, Belinda Burke of Sherborn, Barbara Pease of Arundel, Me., and Margaret Pease of Kennebunk, Me.; a sister, Martha Pease Bronson of Naples, Fla.; two brothers, Maurice of Chilmark and Waterville Valley, N.H., and Allen of Kensington, Conn.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; six stepchildren and 14 step-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the First Congregational Church of Port St. Lucie, 2401 SE Sidonia St. in Port St. Lucie. Interment will take place in Kensington in the spring and a celebration of his life will be offered in June on Martha's Vineyard.
