Robert Thayer Ewing, 78, Enjoyed Crafts, Family

Robert Thayer Ewing, son of the late Bertram Thayer Ewing and Alyce Conkling Ewing, died Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital. Mr. Ewing, 78, was most recently a resident of the Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Ewing came to the Vineyard in 1971 to live with his brother, Harvey Ewing, and family following his discharge from Monson Hospital in Palmer, where he had been a patient for several years. He was skilled at rug hooking and gave his rugs to family members and friends. He also enjoyed yard work, blueberry picking, music, fishing and backyard family barbecues.

He is survived by his sister in law, Jo-Ann Ewing; his nephews, Steven and Colin Ewing, and six grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Harvey, and nephews Douglas and Scott Ewing.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced. Memorial donations may be made to the Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Arrangements are by the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs.
