Katherine Mary Kennedy Was Summer Resident
Katherine Mary (Kay) Kennedy died suddenly on Martha's Vineyard on March 26. Born in Lowell, she was a resident of Manchester, Conn., for more than 30 years, and was a longtime summer resident of Edgartown.
She was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Tyngsboro and was employed for several years by Manchester Memorial Hospital in the medical records department. Her family meant everything to her, and she loved spending time at her vacation home on the Vineyard with her children and grandchildren.
For 47 years, she was the beloved wife of James P. Kennedy, retired superintendent of schools in Manchester. She was also the beloved mother of Ellen Kennedy Slater of Needham, James P. Kennedy Jr. of Hopkinton, Jennifer Kennedy Farrell of Chester, Conn., Jeffrey W. Kennedy of Branford, Conn., and Judith Loftus Kennedy, who predeceased her; the beloved grandmother of Joseph and Thomas Slater, Maria, Sarah and Aidan Kennedy and Kate Farrell, and the beloved sister of Mary Manning of Glastonbury, Conn.
Calling hours will be at the Tierney Funeral Home, 219 West Center street, Manchester, on Friday, March 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. James Church in Manchester at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 29. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Manchester Scholarship Foundation, Judith L. Kennedy Scholarship.
