Joan M. Lawrence Was Former Island Resident

Joan Macon Lawrence, formerly of West Tisbury, died on August 17 in Aliso Viejo, Calif. after a lengthy illness. She moved to Martha's Vineyard from Rowayton, Conn., in 1981 and lived on the Island until 1992. Mrs. Lawrence was dedicated to environmental causes and worked for several years at the Wakeman Center in Vineyard Haven. Prior to her move to the Vineyard, she served as the executive secretary for the Board of Realtors in Darien, Conn.

Mrs. Lawrence is survived by three children: Maggi Lawrence Henrikson of Laguna Beach, Calif.; William B. Lawrence of Weston; Bruce D. Lawrence of Pattaya, Thailand; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned on Martha's Vineyard in October. Donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan avenue, suite 1700, Chicago, IL 60601.
