Beatrice Sawyer, 99, Was Dedicated to Her Family

Beatrice A. Sawyer, 99, of Old Lighthouse Road in Vineyard Haven, died on Sept. 4 at the Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Oak Bluffs. She was the wife of the late Harrison Sawyer, who died 19 years ago.

Born in Cambridge on Dec. 20, 1903, she was a daughter of the late Linwood and Agatha Burbank Hersum. She lived in Vineyard Haven for the past 10 years, having previously resided in Waltham.

She was a homemaker dedicated to her family, and she enjoyed sewing.

Mrs. Sawyer is survived by a daughter, Judity McIntosh of Vineyard Haven; a son, Harrison Sawyer of Portland, Me.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Evelyn Pray and Leroy Hersum.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Church in Vineyard Haven at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home in North Attleboro.
